What it does
What a royalty holder actually receives. Each product’s net sales come from a launch year, a ramp to peak and a fall to a retained share when generics arrive. The royalty on those sales is joined by milestones: development milestones on a trial success or an approval, and sales milestones paid once when annual sales first reach a threshold. A development product’s receipts are weighted by the probability of reaching each event. Licensees report and pay in arrears, so part of each year’s royalty is collected the next year. Operating costs are small against receipts, which is why the cash margin is high.

What a reviewer looks for
- A sales milestone paid every year sales sit above its threshold.
- Royalties collected in the year they are earned.
- A development product’s royalties at full value.
