Is Cover Letter Studio free?
Yes. The guided editor, all three templates, the scoring engine, the role matcher and both exports (PDF and Word) are free, with no signup and no account.
Does my letter leave my browser?
No. Everything you type is stored in localStorage in your own browser and never sent to a server. Clearing your browser data clears the letter, so export a copy when you are done.
How long should a finance cover letter be?
One page — roughly 220 to 420 words across four or five paragraphs. The scoring engine flags you below 220 words (you have asserted rather than evidenced) and above 420 (a screener reading two hundred of these will not finish it).
What does the score actually check?
Eight named checks a screener applies in practice: one-page length, whether the opening earns line two, whether the firm is named inside the argument rather than only the address block, whether the "why this firm" paragraph carries a verifiable anchor, whether your own claims are quantified, whether any of nineteen stock phrases appear, whether more than half your sentences open with "I", and whether the header and close are complete. Each shows a pass or fail with a one-line fix.
Why does it flag phrases like "passion for finance"?
Because they appear in a large share of the letters a screener reads that day, so they carry no information about you. The check does not ask you to delete the sentence — it asks you to replace the stock phrase with the specific thing it was standing in for.
Can I reuse one letter across firms?
The firm-named and firm-evidence checks exist to stop exactly that. A letter that reads identically with another bank's name swapped in is a mailmerge, and screeners spot it in the second paragraph. Rewrite the "why this firm" paragraph for each application; the rest can carry over.
