Hedge Fund Analyst CV example
Experienced · UK CV · set in the Executive template
A hedge fund reads a CV for one thing: whether you generate ideas that make money and can say why. Process and coverage matter, but the strongest CVs show calls, the reasoning behind them and the result, including the ones that went wrong.
A sample person: the name, employers and figures are invented. An equity research associate with a record of calls, moving to a long/short equity fund as an investment analyst.
The order, and why
A short profile naming the sector and approach; experience with calls inside it; a short selection of ideas; education and qualifications; skills.
Weak bullets, made strong
Weak: Provided stock recommendations to clients
Strong: Called a downgrade of a UK retailer to Sell at 310p on inventory build in channel checks; the stock fell 28% over the following quarter
The call, the reason, the price and the result.
Weak: Monitored portfolio companies
Strong: Built a weekly web-traffic and pricing tracker across 14 consumer names, flagging 2 earnings misses a week before results
An original data edge, measured.
Mistakes to avoid
- No calls at all, only coverage. The fund cannot tell whether you make money.
- Only winning calls. Include a miss and what you learned; it is asked anyway.
- Vague theses. "Strong management" is not a thesis.
UK CV or US resume
London funds accept a two-page CV at this level, but most readers prefer one dense page. In the US, keep to one page and name public calls only.
