Barclays now brands this the Discovery Programme. Its own page currently takes a registration of interest rather than an application and publishes no opening date, so October is the pattern from previous cycles rather than a confirmed date. Participants may be considered for a 2027 internship.
How this route works
UK finance recruiting has a distinct shape from the US. The entry ladder starts earlier — spring week in first year, summer internship in penultimate year, graduate programme after, and the assessment centre, largely absent from US processes, is a standard stage at most London banks.
The screening sequence is also more test-heavy. Expect numerical reasoning, situational judgement and increasingly game-based assessments before any human contact, then a recorded video interview, then an assessment centre combining a group exercise, a case study and one-to-one interviews. Candidates who prepare only technicals routinely fail at the group exercise stage.
Almost everything is rolling. UK banks assess applications as they arrive rather than after the deadline, so a strong application submitted in November competes against a much emptier field than the same application in January. This is the single highest-leverage thing to know about the UK calendar.
