How this route works
Continental European finance hiring runs through a handful of cities, and the office you apply to shapes the process more than the brand on the door. Paris and Frankfurt carry most of the investment banking and markets seats, Amsterdam and Zurich the trading and asset management ones, and Luxembourg the fund administration and private-markets roles. The same bank will ask for different languages, different start dates and a different academic calendar from one office to the next.
Two things distinguish the continent from London. The first is the six-month internship, the stage, which many French and German programmes treat as the real entry route, so a summer internship is sometimes a shorter sibling of a longer placement rather than the main event. The second is language: a Paris or Frankfurt seat usually wants the local language at working level, and a listing that does not say so is worth reading twice.
Timing runs later than the UK. Most summer programmes open in the autumn and assess into the new year, and graduate schemes recruit in a second wave in spring. Rolling assessment is common, so the same rule as London applies: an application in the first weeks of the window competes against far fewer people than one at the deadline.

When do European finance internships open?
