Graduate programmes are the structured full-time entry route for final-year students and recent graduates — typically a one-to-three year rotation or a direct-entry analyst seat, with a formal training block at the start. In finance they are the smaller of the two doors: most seats are filled from the preceding summer internship class, and the open graduate round competes for whatever is left.

That makes the arithmetic worth stating plainly. If you interned last summer, the graduate application is often a formality or a conversion conversation. If you did not, you are applying into a materially reduced number of places against a field that includes people who did. It is not closed — banks and technology firms hire directly from the graduate round every year — but it rewards applying to more programmes, earlier, and being ready for a full technical process from the first round.

Timing mirrors the internship cycle: most programmes open in the autumn of the preceding academic year and recruit on a rolling basis. Technology graduate schemes tend to run later and more continuously than finance ones, which is why this hub tracks both.
